The Lehigh-Pocono Committee of Concern envisions a world free from war, violence and injustice. LEPOCO has called for an end to the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Our sympathies rest with the people of Ukraine who have suffered death, destruction and dislocation since the conflict began.

We are mindful, however, of another conflict, one that is continuing into its eighth year. The people of Yemen have been subjected to all manner of privation since Saudi Arabia began attacking in 2015.

There is hope that a two-month truce that started on April 2, 2022, may lead to a permanent resolution. The truce includes ending offensive military operations while allowing some fuel imports and re-opening the airport in Sana’a.

One month in, there is evidence that the truce is holding with respect to air strikes. Some oil tankers have docked at one port, but the reopening of the airport has been delayed.

U.S. Reps. Pramila Jayapal, D-WA, and Peter DeFazio, D-OR, are seeking support for a Yemen War Powers Resolution that would end the involvement of the United States in this war. LEPOCO urges support for this effort.
